Betrothals
The people of Chakwal, especially those living in rural areas, prefer to marry their children at a relatively young age. In the case of girls 19 or 20 years is considered to be an age quite late for marriage.
The prevalent custom is that the boy’s parents select a girl belonging to their biradery and propose to the parents of the girl on behalf of their son. If accepted a betrothal takes place which is primarily a family affair.
